Exaggerated article: http://www.thestar.com.my/…/Trauma-faced-by-some-housemen-…/
Things are getting better though at a slow pace. Less civilized specialists or medical officers still exist but the number is reducing.
Just want to highlight some points from the article:
"A houseman is scheduled to serve in one department for two months."
- Clearly the article is not written by a house officer. A houseman is scheduled to serve in one department for FOUR months.
"And, while on duty the trainees are not given time to go for lunch or dinner; forget about tea-breaks."
- I see many of them in cafeteria during breakfast and lunch time (when I was a houseman, there were almost none). And some of them bought food for their colleagues (they take turn to buy food everyday) which is great. You just need to be opportunistic.

"It is also a known secret that some trainee doctors have left the profession in disgust without completing the two-year compulsory internship."
- They left the profession not in disgust of the system. Majority are not into medicine in the first place. They become a doctor to fulfill their parents' wish.

****Despite all the ramblings about housemanship training written in the newspapers, many still pursue to become a doctor. Parents are still pushing their children to become a doctor. Diagnosis?
